Assam Agricultural University have the PhD programs across the disciplines of the Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Basics Sciences, Social Sciences and Home Science. The minimum qualification to undertake a PhD degree is a master's degree or above in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks or C+ grade.
The PhD admission process is started by a notification released by the Registrar for inviting applications. Those who are keen to apply should fill out and submit an enclosed application form and requested documents before the expiry date. There is an entrance test which is consisted of objective type questions that are assessing the research competency, subject knowledge, quantitative ability and, the general awareness Those who passed the written exam have to sit for an interview. Results of the competition are conducted on the basis of applicants’ GPA, written test and interview scores and their availability under different major advisors.

1. See the AAU website or newspaper notifications for the announcement of PhD admissions and their eligibility criteria. Make sure you have met all the other requirements of eligibility such as educational qualifications, marks etc.
2. As soon as the notification for PhD is released, make sure you go to the official website and download the application form and the prospectus, alternatively you can obtain this by visiting the university admissions office.
3. Complete the application form thoroughly and submit the necessary documents like photocopies of 10th, 12th, UG, PG certificates, experience certificates if any, research proposal and application fee payment proof.
4. Send your filled in application form along with documents before deadline on AAU admissions office' or email. Then you will receive an application number.
5. The university does not accept applicants straight away. The candidates are required to go through an entrance examination and then an interview round conducted by a panel of experts at the AAU main campus or research centers.
6. The selection process will be closed by announcing the provisional list on the website and the entrance performance, grades, and interview record will be taken at the time of entrance.
7. At the final stage, selected students are to be allowed to complete formalities of document verification, payment of a fee, and so on according to the provided timeline.
1. NET conducted by NTA is a compulsory exam for admission to PhD programs at Assam Agricultural University. To get the NET exam over, candidates need to get the subject which they want to do their PhD in cleared.
2. Joint Admission Test for MSc by the IITs is again an exam which can allow you to get admission to PhD to the University. The JAM is a subject-specific examination that allows one to clear it in a subject that is relevant to one's career.
3. Alongside admissions for some disciplines which candidates are required to pass Indian Council of Agricultural Research National Eligibility Test (ICAR-NET). It is given by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
4. The GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) in Agriculture and allied disciplines conducted by the IITs is also the qualification for applying for PhD admission at Assam Agricultural University.
5. Under Junior Research Fellowship, Senior Research Fellowship, Teacher Fellowship or other national level examinations with fellowship the admission to PhD at this varsity is also possible.
6. Students who have cleared the SLET conducted for State Level Eligibility as per the UGC norms are also eligible to apply for the PhD courses offered at the Assam Agricultural University.
